Entries - Embellished Bowls/Platters

Wood: Pepper Wood. Size: 175mm Dia. Height: 90mm. Mica powder and CA glue fills the cracks and the rot.

Made from Jacaranda, this piece has been embellished with pyrography to within an inch of its life and painted iridescent colours, inspired by Andi Wolfes demonstration at the NAW Expo 2026. Finished with the Beall buffing system. 160mm x 50mm

A swamp Kauri bowl with green pearl mica resin and Corsican and Canary Island pine cones. 6 coats of sprayed lacquer buffed on the Beall System.

Ash Platter with light see through acrylic embelishment. 410mm Dia x 40mm deep, 6 coats of 50% thinned sprayed lacquer. Buffed on the Beal System.

Large, wide-rim bowl made from Michelia timber. Embellished with pyrography and dye. Lacquer finish. 310mm × 80mm.

The Rimu burr for this bowl/platter came from  a local guild raffle. The burr almost fills the bowl with some incipient fiddleback pattern to each side. Finish is Microtone sanding sealer and carnauba wax. Dimensions(mm) H(65) x W(180) x D(55)

Made from black walnut and turned wet, this is the first I'm my series of Hawaiian calabash bowls. It contains a single pewa as a feature. Normally these are to repair cracks but not in this case.  Size: 230mm x 170mm high.

Spalted Californian black oak (Quercus kelloggii). Carved rim and seam. Cellulose sanding sealer, pure Danish oil, Carnauba wax. Diameter: 305 mm x 130 mm high.

Once turned camphor laurel (Camphora officinarum) platter. Three hand carved ball feet. Pure Danish oil (tung oil & citrus thinners), carnauba wax. 430 mm diameter, 80 mm high.

Sweet Chestnut bowl with beading, 360mm Dia x 50mm deep. 6 COATS OF 50% THINNED LACQUER.

Sweet Chestnut with red cedar and Corsican pine cones in pearl violet resin mica. 6 coats of 50% thinned sprayed lacquer, buffed on the Beall System.  390mm Dia x 50mm deep

A Matai flared top bowl with Puriri & Jarrah inlay set in the rim echoing the colours of nature.  Finish:  Danish Oil.  Dimensions:  200mm wide x 95mm high.

Camphor with Red cedar and Corsican pine cones in Sapphire blue and white pearl resin.300mm Dia x 50mm deep, 6 coats of 50% thinned sprayed lacquer.

This pepperwood bowl features terracotta-coloured Milliput inlaid into the timber's natural cracks, blocking light from passing through. The top view reminds me of continents and coastlines. Diameter: 295 mm; height: 70 mm. Finished in spray lacquer.

 Segmented Ring Bowl. 172 segments. The idea was to create something that I had not seen done before, Made from Maple. 130mm high, 220mm wide. Finished with Briwax

Turned and edges carved, penetrated  painted , rubbed  green and gold mix, nice light weight platter 350 mm wide15mm and less thick

A pyrographed and coloured comic sketch on a square shallow bowl. 170 x 170 x 18mm. The wood is kauri and the finish is lacquer.

Pyrography rope edged bowl from Kahikatea, 175mm high and 100mm high. Finished with osmo oil for a durable finish.
