Entries - Boxes

Maccrocarpa, turned and carved joined with  mult axis center ring. Finished with Candy Apple red over black base. Inner boxes are Macrocarpa burl finished in satin gloss lacquer. Center finial in semi gloss black for handling 185mm high x 130mm wide.

Turned manoao and Tasmanian Blackwood lidded box, 125mm wide. The golden manoao forms stylised sunflower petals around a textured Blackwood seed head, visited by a woodturned manoao bee with delicate wire-framed wings.

An off-centre, multi-axis turned box in the form of an eye. The natural branch defect has been kept as a deliberate imperfection - the ‘mote’. The pupil uses mica powder and CA. 120mm long, 60mm wide. Pittosporum and walnut.

Acorn Nut - NZ Rimu. Acorn Cap - Reclaimed River Rimu. Leaf - White Oak - Tirning, Bandsawn, Dremel profile, Waterbased dye. Finish - Acorn - Acrylic Lacquer, Leaf - Finish lacquer. Dimensions - 220mm x 135mm, x 115mm

Ancient Kauri, preserved for millennia beneath the earth, returns as a quiet vessel. From its weathered grain, an Ebonised Purpleheart finial rises like new growth after a long silence. 145mm height x 110mm wide.

Timber - Ash, Macrocarpa. Turned, Bandsaw, Scroll saw, Pyrography, Waterbased dyes. Finish - Gloss Acrylic Lacquer.- Natural. NZ Apple Box - 140mm x 120mm x 145mm Apple Box - 88mm x 115mm.

NZ Rimu and Macrocarpa. Turned, Carved, Pyrography, waterbased dye. Finish - Satin Lacquer. 88mm diameter x 90mm high.

New Zealand Monoao and Queen Ebony meet in a softly rounded vessel.  The dark, sail like finial rises above flowing grain, expressing my journey between Africa and Aotearoa.  195mm height x 125mm wide.

Fern inspired fern motif seen on a bright sunny day, on a usable decorative box.  Kauri, Paua shell, textured, Interference paint, Mirotone 3241, 65mm x 93mm.

Lidded Calabash. Lid (Plate) 270mmDia x 32mm high; Pot 265mmDia x 105 high. Traditional Hawaiian Calabash with lid (plate) with 4 Pewa inserted to repair a crack. Timber Black walnut. Finish  Danish Oil.

Wood - Cherry. Size 70mm x 70mm

Matai lidded box with cherry branch inset into lid. Finished with Beall buff. 6 x 9 x 8 cm

Elm box with burl walnut and Liquid Amber inserts. Box is lined with  green felt. 120mm Dia x 50mm H

This box is a simple yet classical jewellery style box. The wood is spalted blackwood. Harvested from a heritage property in Greytown. The box is 105 wide by 55 deep. The finish is tung oil then Beall buffed.

This is a pair  that have different embelishment on the sides and one has apricot top the other purple heart, Both have barley corn insets. a central container comes out  for storage beneath. primarly for rings. 6 coats of sprayed lacquer. 60mm H x 90mm Dia.

Deer antler 'Button' from a friends farm with a rim of 90mm at the widest point. Enhanced with a Queeen ebony stand and finial giving a final height of 190mm

This piece of Totara started off as my multi-axis demo at the May 2026 NAW Wood Expo. Someone mentioned that they looked like eggcups, so I decided to create tops for an impression of colourful, textured eggs. H75mm W140mm D130mm 

Possibly Elm (Club wood), this small box was made at a Workshop using basic tools. Finished with Osmo Oil. Base 70mm diameter, height 70mm.
