Turned and carved out of Pohutukawa, a hard red NZ native wood. Textured with pyrography, then sandblasted to bring back some wood colour. The outside is sprayed with iridescent acrylic paint, finished with lacquer. Display upright or on side.  250mmx190mm

Rainbow Trout is carved from Southland Beech, scales were burned using a pyrography pen.  Paint was applied with an airbrush using Acrylic paint. The eyes are glass and the stones are carved from Tupelo wood.  350mmH x 400mmL x 260mmW.

One piece of Red Beech that had multiple burs over is length. Turned on multiple centres to cup shaped flowers and to remove the bulk in-between. Inspiration from the majestic Rata Vine.  850 high x 300 wide x 180 deep.

Reclaimed puriri from a bog. Hand worked back to core self. Steel rods and base. Danish oil.  133cm high x 85cm wide x 53cm deep.

Ruby Throated Hummingbirds were carved using Tupelo wood, brass for the branch and leaves, glass eyes, painted with Acrylic paints and the natural wood on the bottom of the base is Teak.  400mm H x 150mm L x 220mm W.

Hand carved on totara with mallet and chisels, a bit of 3D effect of dolphins on shark fin. Centre area left chisel finished with sanded fin and base, finished with rimu Briwax.  500mm x 500 x 55mm.

After seeing Tieke at various locations in New Zealand I knew I would have to create a lasting image of one in wood displaying their distinctive pose.  Tupelo wood, Acrylic paint.  Dimensions 220mm high x 390mm long x 140mm deep.

Handcrafted from ancient West Coast driftwood, carried by rivers and storms and returned as sea-shaped treasure. Native timbers show nature's truest colour and texture. The Whale, honoured across cultures, carries deep wisdom, strength and grounded presence. 620H x 350W

In an ancient swamp-kauri ring and natural-edge base, a macrocarpa sphere is suspended, richly coloured and textured with metallic acrylics. New life in an old frame. Finished with Beall buff. Dimensions: 400 × 350 × 80 mm deep.

The tail of the disappearing Whale diving into the brine.  Recycled house Kauri 195mm x 55mm getting a new life in shining colour and pyrography pattern showing the way..

Ancient Coromandel Swamp Kauri, shaped to reveal a former branch junction, is divided into two pieces and mounted on Tasmanian blackwood base with brass rods.  Finished with gold leaf, Harlem Danish oil, then buffed.  28 cm high × 25 cm diameter.

Reclaimed timber, beach found Tangiwai pounamu and native burl. Hand-carved and finished with natural oil. The manta ray form was discovered through the timber’s natural shape and grain, allowing the material to guide its movement and flow. 38cm H × 36cm W × 16cm D

Leaf wood is kauri, the base wood is unknown.  Finished in Danish oil.  Diameter 230mm, height 95mm.

That moment just before the wave breaks...  Carved from a single block of macrocarpa offcut. The wood grain beautifully follows the flow and direction of the breaking wave.  300mmL x 150mmW x 130mmH

Tōtara stump wood from local river, carved with arborteck mini carver. Green and gold paint rub. Box elder fantail is 90mm long and 50mm high sitting on a branch that is 160mm. Total 500 x 500 x 190mm.

‘Treble clef’ fulfills fascination with the shape then creating the harmonious form.  The increase in ‘seed’ size on the shape ends represent (musical) cheer potential … yet to bloom.  Tawa wood, beeswax finish. 45cm h, 13cm w, 8cm d.
