Entries - Embellished Bowls/Platters

Chestnut off centre, bowl 240mm x 40mm height. Off centre bowl with nice grain effect, and a few embellished edges and base, nice to turn looks nice on the sideboard. 

Swamp Kauri Fruit bowl. Sanded to 300 then Yorkshire Grit then Beall.  H(70)DIA(180)

A swamp Kauri bowl with acrylic rod embelishment, 260mm Dia x 50mm deep. 6 coats of sprayed 50% thinned lacquer. buffed on the Beal System.

Large kauri platter with rotary carved undulations to edge rim and colour added with lathe running at slow speed. 430mm wide, 20mm thick and less. Pāua dot on base.

A winged bowl displaying pyrographed images of Kokopelli, a Native American deity symbolising fertility.  278 x 188 x 20 mm.  The wood is oak and the finish is lacquer.

Large tōtara bowl 460 mm wide , 90mm high, Wall thickness 35 mm with pyrography workings to rim. Pāua dot on base.

Ancient Kauri  The leaves are individually carved and due to the depth of detail  appear to move when the bowl is viewed from different angles. Sitting on three feet gives the work has  lift a new favourite work  260 x 120 x 3mm 

Ancient Kauri 300 x 200 x 5mm that has been carved with overlaying leaves with such detail the leaves appear to move as you view the piece from all around. Turning the bowl over  reveals a oasis as found on the forest floor. 

I am told embellishing the inside of a bowl is difficult, "no pain no gain".  Liquid Bloom 3 is my 3rd attempt and the first inside a bowl. Birch, 21.5cm long 10cm high, paints are acrylic then acrylic lacquer. 

A lightweight, thin walled bowl with a pyrography centrepiece.  It is painted in acrylics to resemble a Mayan ceramic work. 180 x 38 high.  The finish is lacquer.

Crafted from Silver Beech, this platter showcases the timber’s natural grain alongside an intricate arrangement of clock gears set in clear resin. Buffed to a smooth finish with Glow friction polish.  Diameter: 32 cm x thickness of 8mm

Unknown Burl/knot wood turned with wings and feet.  Monstera leaves and bark-like texture behind leaves.  Turned, Carved, pyrography, acrylic colour and guilders paste, Spray lacquer - finish. 350mm wide x 75mm high, bowl - 170mm across x 63mm deep.

Black Maire 360mm diameter, 95mm high. Holes and rot filled with resin. Rim has 30mm undercut, insert of resin over red and black stones border on each side opaque resin. Pyrography dots coloured with guilders paste. Rustins Danish Oil finish.

Multi-Axis (4) Bowl - Made from Ash with Pyro and Dremel texture and waterbased dye tinting. Finished in Gloss Acrylic Lacquer. 235mm diameter x 55mm high, 

Natural edged bowl turned from Black Maire. The inset foot is Pohutukawa. Dimensions are 180mm diameter and 130mm at the highest point

Spalted London Plane bowl. 390mm Dia x 50mm deep. 6 coats of 50%thinned lacquer, buffed on the Beal System.

Decorated with Neanderthal themed pyrography, carved and laced, (with beads added) to appear as assembled in three parts.  Wood is London Plane (chosen for a colour that closely resembles clay). Finish is Wax. Size is 190mm diameter, 65 high.

A delicate rimmed bowl with simple flowing lines.  213 x 36 mm high.  The wood is red beech and carries an attractive feather.  The finish is lacquer.
