Based on Japanese ceramic of a structured form contrasting with organic design. I made my own wire to burn the flowers. Thanks to Rodney Hayes my tutor who encourages all my crazy ideas. H: 6.2 cm,  4 cm. Wood: ginkgo. Finish: polyurethane. Embellishment: burning.

Totara from old Northern Wairoa grandstand, Dargaville (1911-2001) blown over in cyclone.  Designed to represent starting from small beginnings toto being a prominent area in Northlands development especially in the early 1900s.  Finished with French polish.  H==210mm  W=70mm

The Hexagonal Jewellery Box 236mm x 110mm is made from recycled Rimu, the lid is made from recycled Kauri with Queen Ebony banding/edging and draw pulls. The marquetry Fantail and initials on the inside were created using double-bevelled marquetry.

Wood  materials- macrocarpa, Rimu (lid). Finish - Danish Oil and Buff applied. Measurements height - 11 cm width - 20 cm depth - 8 cm

Oak lidded box with ash legs.  Painted and stained with a light polyurethane over the black sections.  14 cm wide, 10 cm tall

Old indoor Lignum Vitae bowling ball turned to lidded box with finial . Body : lignum Vitae Finial Poplar/Paduk/macrocarpa. Finish: Acetone wash to remove oil followed by dewaxed Shellac and polish to 2000grit. Height 125mm, Width 100mm.

A single block of london plane burr which was to good to be turned into shavings and so with the top and base removed, allowed the two lidded boxes to be salvaged and turned from the centre. 110 mm x 90mm.

This box is a simple yet classical jewellery style box. The wood is Irish yew with a Kauri root ball insert in the lid. Harvested from a heritage property in Greytown. The box is 90 wide by 50 deep. The finish is tung oil then Beall buffed.

A lidded trinket box in Puriri & Ebony.  The lid representing a drop of rain falling into a puddle.  Finish:  Danish Oil.  Dimensions:  100mm wide x 110mm high.

Set of Double lidded pots.  Largest 120 h x55dia, Mid size  108 h x 50dia, Small 96 h x 44dia. Body of the pot is Southland beech burl and contrast band is Sycamore. Finish is Penetrol. 

Japanese Inro (Box) and Ojime (Bead) in ebonised Walnut with shellac finish 60x35x110mm.  Netsuke in boxwood with oil finish. The Inro was used in Japan as a pocket, and the Netsuke as a counterweight through the sash of a kimono.

A nice challenge, Chestnut box, off centre turning lovely grain, nice to turn, with a three sided off set. Width 70mm, height 125mm.

This teapot follows my Asian influenced style. The body is plum, spout and lid are purple heart with ebony and a plum cross piece. The pot is 190mm tall x 160 round x 190mm wide . Finish is tung oil.

Made from Elm and Macrocrapa. Turned, Dremel textured, coloured with waterbased dyes. Finish - Gloss Acrylic Lacquer. 80mm diameter x 95mm high.

Continuing my experiments with contrasting inside and outside textures.  Cedar, Sandblasted, Spalted Olive (lid), Mirotone Danish Oil. 60mm x 85mm.

Twin conical lids adorn the top of this emerging bowl.  The piece measures 150 x 90 x 80 high.  The main form is recycled kauri from an historic Coromandel verandah post, and the handles on the lids are wenge.  The finish is beeswax.
