Endemic to New Zealand, larger than life!  Made to overcome the fear they have caused me when arriving uninvited after dark!  Programs to match actual patterns on body and legs.  Body 160mm long, 80mm wide, 200mm overall.

Crafted from an recycled heart rimu beam and finished with linseed oil.  730mm high, 390mm wide and 95mm deep. 

Five recesses turned into the gnarly, fissured surface of a Totara post. Underside textured the three feet pyrographed to accentuate the black and brown contrasts. Ends sanded smooth to show the lovely end grain. Size: 255mm long, 170mm x 90mm.

A large chalice with a pierced lattice rim and pyrography depicting a trio of Gecko encircling and exploring the outside of the vessel. Wood: Avocado. Height: 300mm. Diameter: 120mm. Finish: Spray Lacquer.

Celebrating kākāpō conservation efforts and the 2026 milestones, this platter is made from Swamp Kauri with a Rimu stand, embellished with acrylics and pyrography. The off-centre rim pattern represents the markings of the kākāpō. 380mm

Kōwhai flower inspired in an art deco style. Hollow form in tōtara (Podocarpus tōtara). Hand carved and shaped, pyrography, resin filled knot, pure Danish oil, carnauba wax.  170 mm diameter, 34mm tall.

Wood: unknown old hardwood beam. Size: 250x220x65mm. Finish: Shellawax.  Wanted to keep the original patina of the beam and contrast it with a smooth finish of the bowl.

Small bowl with extended legs, turned and carved from a single piece of oak. Interior painted, exterior finished with Danish oil and a light polyurethane.   16 cm tall, 7 cm diameter.

Turned and carved from one piece of Totara. The hollow heads have a wall thickness around 3mm. The pyrography texture is painted with iridescent acrylic paint and a lacquer finish. The wood is finished with haarlem oil.  H340mm W270mm D80mm

"Medusa" carved/textured Cypress form, perhaps a serpentine vessel from Athena's temple. 200mm(8") high X 155mm(6") diam, oiled then sealed with several coats of polyurethane. 

Chinese balls and captive rings as a whimsical work of art with Mr Walnut and Mrs Magnolia.  Kapiti Beach black sand represented by not fully polishing the base.  Sanding sealer, 1000 grit and then 3m pads. H 230 W 240 D 180.

Mushrooms on driftwood, tops have been resined with sparkle mica. Length 320mm x 200mm wide x 220mm H. This has imitation moss and stems are tortured willow. Mushroom caps are flowering cherry and sycamore. 

A bonsai in autumn. Laboriously carved. Kanuka wood, including the leaves. The leaves are printed and the tree is ebonized. The pot is carved from Oregon pine and charred. River stones added as a growing medium. 47cm high, 44cm wide.

Japanese Cedar, turned, carved, embellished to represent the mythical Giant Pearl protected by its crown of thorn's. Pearl is 100mm Kauri sphere with multiple coats of silk pearl resin, stand is natural burled Cypress, all oiled and Lacquer sealed, 500mm(20")diam x 420mm(16.5)H 

Rimu piece carved and turned that invites being picked up and felt. Boiled linseed and buffed finish. 150 mm Diameter and 45 mm Depth. This piece conveys the warmth, bonds and unity of a family interacting.

Made from wet Oak and turned to 4mm, then encouraged to bend over a period of time and decorated with a wooden Pearl Sphere in the centre.  Finished with Beall Buffing System. Size 270mm x 220mm.

Partially lathe turned and partially hand-whittled. Inspired by the traditional Māori Pikorua (twist) pattern which represents the eternal connection of two paths. The last photo indicated the making progress. Wood unkown, finished with traditional wax. Dimention: 23cm L x 2cm W and 1.2cm the widest part.
